EDUCATION. Associate’s Degree preferred with coursework in human services, counseling, social work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year experience with children of various ages. Residential experience and bilingual (Spanish) a plus.

MENTAL DEMANDS: Ability to deal with a variety of emotions and frustrations in the workplace, communicate with a variety of people, work independently and maintain strict confidences. Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflicts, adaptable and flexible and make effective decisions under pressure. Must be attentive, listen to people, perceive the real problems and bring issues to a successful conclusion.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb stairs and lift up to 30 pounds.

SKILLS: This position requires a caring, dedicated individual for child care work who possesses the ability to work with families in crisis, cultural awareness and sensitivity, effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to act as a member of a team.

OTHER: Annual TB test required.

Description: • Plan, coordinate and implement playgroups, recreational activities and special activities for children and/or families. • Provide mentoring to part-time, evening playgroup facilitators, interns and volunteers. • Provide behavior modification and crisis intervention, as needed, with children and parents. • Ensure that playgroups are staffed, open on time and operating safely, paying attention to the number of children participating. • Provide direct supervision to children attending playgroup or other activities, maintaining a safe and positive environment. • Ensure that playrooms are cleaned and organized after use, and identifies any maintenance issues that should be brought to the attention of the facilities manager. • Maintain documentation and statistics collection. • Attend and actively participates in all scheduled staff and supervisory meetings. • Inventory, order and stock materials and supplies used in activities. • Other duties as assigned.

Description: • Provides central telephone communications and reception. • Screens, take message, relay telephone calls and/or direct calls to voice mail for staff, volunteers and shelter residents. • Supports agency security by screening all individuals entering the facility. • Provides administrative support to agency’s staff (including copying, typing, faxing, mailings, data entry, etc.), as identified by supervisor. • Ensures adequate supply of shelter paperwork, including Welcome Booklets, blank charts, Self-Report Surveys, etc. • Assists with data collection and entry for program statistics: Monroe County DHHS Billing Book, United Way Beneficiary Report and Transitional Support Services Support Groups statistics. • Other duties as assigned

Residential Services Program Coordinator (Evening/Weekend)

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Master’s preferred, or related degree and experience.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three to five years of supervisory experience, preferably in a residential setting, and successful experience working with families in crisis.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise residential services full time and per diem staff.

OTHER: Annual TB test required. CPR and First Aid certifications required.

Description: Provide program development, oversight and direction of residential services. Work collaboratively with the Residential Services Management Team, as well as other program coordinators, to achieve total agency integration of services. Recruit, interview, train, supervise, schedule and appraise full-time and per diem staff. Facilitate weekly team case management, staff meetings and shift hand off. Provide crisis intervention, advocacy and short-term counseling to individuals and families in shelter and on the hotline. Provide back-up case management as needed. Develop, supervise and evaluate residential groups. Facilitate educational / community support groups as needed. Develop and maintain community partnerships that relate to residential programming. Communicate with DHS for emergency housing, eligibility, extensions and fair hearings. Provide educational programs to professionals and participate as a speaker for ABW Speakers’ Bureau. Coordinate (in conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator) training and supervision of volunteers and interns. Compile, tabulate and analyze data required by funders to determine program effectiveness, outcome measurements, client satisfaction, and post shelter stay follow-ups. Attend and participate in all agency meetings. Provide primary and secondary administrative on-call coverage for the agency. Maintain confidentiality and complete all job functions in an ethically and culturally competent manner. Other duties as assigned.

Description: Provide backup to hotline counselors assuming all of the following responsibilities: Respond to hotline calls; Provide crisis and supportive counseling, information, referrals, and safety planning as needed in person or over the telephone’ Document all hotline calls following the agency’s procedures’ Welcome clients to the shelter; Manage the waiting list; Track women and children placed elsewhere and offer them access to groups, court advocates and TSS services; Conduct telephone follow-ups; Prepare client files, welcome books and packets and file, copy and maintain office supplies; Review client charts for signatures, summaries, etc.; Review tracking logs for completeness and move to client file upon exit; File medication logs (prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs) in client files after exiting shelter; Provide backup to Residential Family Counselor assuming all of the following responsibilities; Provide supportive counseling to women and children; Provide backup for intakes when the case manager is unavailable; Document counseling sessions and any issues that may arise in client files and notify the case manager of those issues or any needs that came up during the counseling session; Conduct client welcome meetings; Assist client in developing and revising safety plan; Update census; Facilitate groups and group development; Leave telephone shift alerts; Schedule chores, explain and teach skills needed to complete chores; Oversee activities in kitchen at mealtime and assist with service; Conduct room checks; Assist families with bedtime routine; Oversee packing and cleaning of rooms; Oversee client telephone and provide supplies to clients as needed; Monitor and sign off on babysitting forms; Oversee and record resident’s usage of prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs; Manage petty cash, tokens and quarters, and monitor client sign in/out sheets; Provide client transportation to and from valid appointments; Provide assistance to case management; Provide walk-in support; Provide shelter milieu coverage while Residential Family Counselor in facilitating groups; Document any counseling, resident issues or needs that arise; Provide supportive counseling to women and children; Complete all job functions ethically and in a culturally competent manner; Attend and participate in all pertinent agency meetings and trainings; Other duties as assigned.
